2022 Toyota GR86 vs Mazda MX-5 Miata: A Real-World Comparison

The 2022 Toyota GR86 and the Mazda MX-5 Miata are your two top options on the market if you're seeking for a small, two-seat sports vehicle.

One is a convertible, and the other is a coupe. The other has become famous over the past 30 years, while the first is the love child of two Japanese manufacturers.

Both of these vehicles are a complete delight to drive every day, as I have had the privilege of testing them over the last year.

But I favour one over the other personally. I've compared the GR86 and MX-5 Miata quickly below.

1. The Toyota GR86 is a more comfortable daily driver than the Mazda MX-5 Miata

To be clear, the 2022 Toyota GR86 has a 2+2 seating configuration, however most adults find the back seat to be essentially useless.

Children can undoubtedly fit in the rear, but while I had the car, I mostly used the area for extra storage. Having said that, I classify it as a two-seater.

Additionally, I discovered that the GR86 was more pleasant to drive on a daily basis than the MX-5.

The front seat occupants have additional head and legroom, and the seats themselves seem more comfortable.

For a compact coupe, the GR86 is also simpler to get into and out of.

2. The Mazda MX-5 looks sharper than the GR86 and it offers open-air fun
